J.E. Hartshorne

  • James Edward Hartshorne (1841–1917) was a china painter at Coalport China Works (1871), and then at the Derby Crown Porcelain Works (c.1879–83) where he painted plaques and vases with bird studies, particularly birds of prey.

  • From c.1883 James Edward Hartshorne worked at the Benthall Pottery Company. There are two known pieces of Salopian Art Pottery signed and dated by him (1887 and 1907). Both pieces are bird studies, seen here. Others pieces may exist.
