Early mark, possibly for William Allen / Benthall, c.1880

Previous
marks-1

Only one example of this mark is known to exist, on a circular wall plaque with raised passion flowers (a typical Salopian Art Pottery piece). Presumed to stand for William Allen / Benthall.

Dated to the very beginning of art pottery production, c.1880, possibly before the name ‘Salopian’ had been chosen for the Benthall Pottery Company’s new range of decorative pottery.
